Exotic Pet Care

Exotic Pet Care - Wellness Examinations At East River Veterinary Hospital we welcome birds, reptiles and small mammals, in addition to cats and dogs.

Wellness Care

We offer optimum wellness care programs for birds and other exotic pets. Since it is often difficult to determine if an exotic pet is ill, we strongly recommend physical examinations twice a year to check for health problems, as well as annual monitoring to check for nutritional and husbandry-related conditions.

In order to survive attacks from predators, exotic animals normally conceal their illnesses in the wild. As a result, medical problems can go unnoticed for a long period of time, leading to the condition becoming very serious by the time the owners discover it. With bi-annual exams, problems can be diagnosed before they become too serious.

As with any new puppy or kitten, your new exotic pet should be seen by a veterinarian after you acquire him/her. This exam will include a complete physical exam, as well as give you the opportunity to ask questions about your new pet. You want to be sure that your new pet is healthy before introducing him/her to your home.
